Over the past couple weeks I’ve been trying to get re-engaged with the online real estate investing communities out there. For the past year plus, I took a back seat to that scene in order to concentrate on other parts of my life. Luckily I still have been able to keep my blog going or I would have been totally out of the loop.
I had forgotten that a huge part of being successful was to surround yourself with like minded people. The best way to find those people, for me, was going to real estate investing forums and blogs and participate in them. Yesterday I went to biggerpockets.com for the first time in ages. I knew it had been a long time because the entire interface had changed!!
I probably spent 30 minutes there answer questions or giving my 2 cents on the forums. As I was posting my comments I remembered how much thought I had to put into each comment. Not only did the comments make me think about real estate investing but got my creative juices flowing as well. That is double goodness right there! The more you think about real estate investing, the more likely you will become successful at it.
Giving back is a huge part of making it in any business, so my goal from here on out is to try and help someone in REI need at least once a week. I am going to post about it as well to possibly inspire other people to do the same.

You raised a valid point; giving back is the best way to complete that karma wheel. I have a concern, however; how do you deal with the legal implications of giving (possibly unsolicited) advice for such a sensitive domain? Have you ever given advice that came back to bite you, and how did you resolve that?

In this day and age I’m not surprised at anything. Having someone sue you because they read or have gotten advice from something you put out there is an appalling reality. Many people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and look for someone to blame. With all that said, I’ve never had anyone come back at me and say advice that I’ve written caused them to lose money.
