30DC – Day 11 – Squidoo and Hubpages

30DC11Day 11 focused more on article publishing but in a bit of a different way using Squidoo and Hubpages.   On day 10 we uploaded articles to ezinearticles and scribd, which were straight up article hosting sites.  The sites today were about creating fan type pages much like you would in Facebook.  I also categorize them as glorified one page website.

In Squidoo you create what is called Squidoo Lenses.  They define a lens as “…one person’s look at something online. Your take on football or business or the best Thai food in town..”  Of course we are going to be using the lens as a way to drive traffic to your main website as well as build up backlinks.  30DC gives a few tips to follow as well; have at least 3 modules, allow for user commenting, include the RSS module and to ensure that your content is unique (i.e. an article specifically written for the site).

Hubpages is pretty much the exact same has Squidoo, just under a different name.   Instead of a Lens they call it a Hub. Tips here are to use different types of media (pictures, videos,etc..), have more then two tags, ad ability for readers to comment and a poll.

My Stuff

I figured out that we need to have a unique article for each site we publish to.  One reason is we don’t want duplicate content hurting our page rank and the other reason is that sites like squidoo, hubpages, ezinearticles and scribd specifically state that the article be unique (why rock the boat and get the moderators after you?).

This meant I had to write some more articles.  I was able to write one about Executor Duties over the holiday weekend and used that for Hubpages.  Now I’ve got to write a few more but I developed a good way to come up with topics.  When ever I’m reading about Probate (or any other topic for that matter) I will write down a few keywords into my iphone notebook that “might” be a topic.  here is the list I’ve gotten so far..

  • Executor’s Duties (done)
  • Holographic will
  • Dower and Curtis
  • Joint Tenancy and how it affects Probate
  • Estate Planning
  • Distribution according to state law
  • Cost of Probate
  • What are the taxes on inheritance

As always I’ve added the links to the two articles to Rank Tracker (in Market Samurai) and Traffic Bug.

Day 12

Tomorrow is about assessing that stats and publishing more content to your blog.
